I assume the DVRs were working overtime last night
(recording Downton Abbey), as everyone tuned in to watch the Golden
Globes. There are two camps in my house on all this award show business. My
husband thinks they are obnoxious and self congratulatory to the entertainment
industry and then there is me. I love it all; the acceptance speeches, outfits,
twitter feeds and figuring out which movies I need to go see and what shows to
start watching.
My overall takeaway is that I need to just quit my job and
start watching Girls and Homeland, with afternoon matinee dates mixed in there.
Who’s with me?
There are some years where none of the best picture movies
appeal to me; luckily that is not the case this year. There are so many films I
want to see before the Oscars roll around. Les Mis is my favorite Broadway show of all time, and I have been eagerly anticipating the film since the very first rumor. From what I can tell, fans of the play have been overwhelmingly pleased (if you don't like the play or musicals, obviously this is not the film for you). I can't wait to see it! So far from the Best Picture
categories I have seen and really enjoyed Argo & Lincoln. I thought Daniel
Day Lewis was incredible in Lincoln, so I was pleased he took home an award.
Maggie Smith in Downtown Abbey is one of my favorite characters of all time, so
I did a little cheer when she won- even though I wish she was present to accept
the award as I would have loved to hear the Dowager Countess’ acceptance
speech. Bradley Cooper is in my top five male celebrity fantasy list, and while I didn't really “get” Jodie Foster’s speech, I do appreciate and respect her as an
actress. I loved Glenn Close acting drunk and I enjoyed Tina Fey and Amy
Poehler as hosts. All in all, it was a great Sunday evening in my book.

My best friend’s wedding was this past weekend. It was
beautiful, emotional and completely exhausting. Being a maid (technically
“matron” but I hate using that word to describe myself) of honor was a whole
new experience for me. I’ve been a bridesmaid multiple times, but this was my first
foray in to the sidekick, dress fluffing, bride’s bouquet holding, speech
giving role. I would say it’s almost as much work as being the bride, without
the honeymoon to recover. In all seriousness though, being Kristen’s Matron of
Honor was one of the greatest privileges
of my life, and I fully intend to appropriately document it here (maybe one
post this week & one post when we get the professional photos back). All of
this to say, next weekend I plan to majorly relax and decompress. Showing up at
work this morning was a reality check after being on a wedding high for the
past three days.
Luckily a three day weekend is on the horizon (thank you Martin
Luther King) and I plan to load up on my pre-Oscars movie watching. Les
Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty & Silver Linings Playbook are at the top of my
list.
To round out this recap, my favorite looks of the Golden Globes:

Olivia Munn (love her on Newsroom) in Giorgio Armani & Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy. Hugh Jackman in a perfect tux and the adorable Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta (love the color). I was hoping to see more emerald on the red carpet. This years pantone color of the year is one of my favorites. Maybe at the Oscars? |
